Concussion. The number of unreported cases is much higher because the diagnosis is wrong.

This is partly due to misconceptions that a blackout is always part of a

must be a concussion. Many of those affected continue to suffer for years

an injury or persistent complaints.

What is a "concussion"?

A concussion is an injury to neuronal structures and networks in the nervous system. These primarily relate to functional deficits that can rarely be detected with regular imaging methods such as MRI. In about 75% of cases, the brain is able to recover from the injury on its own. In the remaining cases, "Post Concussion Symptoms", some of which can lead to severe limitations in brain function. The functional deficits can be remedied with targeted "neuro training".

background

Since the film "Concussion" with Will Smith was released in 2015, awareness of the possible effects of concussions on the brain and the rest of the body has not only grown in the USA. In the film, Will Smith plays a neurologist (Dr. Bennet Omalu) who performs an autopsy on a deceased football player and then realizes that severe brain damage can be linked to death. After detailed examinations, the clinical picture of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) was discovered. CTE is a neurodegenerative disease associated with abnormal accumulation of tau protein and can lead to cell death, dementia and cognitive deficits. Tau protein is responsible for the transmission of information between nerve cells. A large accumulation leads to a kind of knotting, which negatively affects the communication paths between the nerve cells and can lead to the death of neurons. A concussion is a complex pathophysiological process that negatively affects the brain due to biomechanical effects.

neurological approach

A recognized Treatment with medication for a concussion is not possible. Treatment approaches work best based on the "Functional Neurology". These focus on individual neurological deficits and treat them specifically. The most common fields of application include visual and vestibular exercises, since these systems are also most frequently disturbed. A detailed anamnesis, in which the existing disturbances are revealed, is important for the individual approach become.

shock in sports

No sport records more concussions than American football. Nevertheless, this diagnosis has hardly been diagnosed in recent years, especially in American football. Former NFL player Mike Webster, who died after Dr. Bennet Omalu had a massive form of CTE despite not having been diagnosed with a single concussion in 27 years of gaming - and with over 27,000 recorded hits in his gaming career. In addition to Mike Webster, many other NFL players fall victim to CTE. Boston University found that 87 out of 91 NFL players who died had CTE. These include Taler Sash, who died of a painkiller overdose, and Junior Seau, who committed suicide with a gun. Since depression and anxiety disorders could also be associated with CTE, the question must be asked to what extent the neurodegenerative disease could have been partly responsible for the suicide.

FAQ

  • How does online coaching work?
We usually work with the video communication software ZOOM for our coaching. You do not need an extra program for this and you can easily contact us via your browser. Of course you also have the opportunity to visit us live, but we try to save you the journey and therefore also enable coaching from a distance.
  • Am I even eligible for coaching?
Sure. However, it is best if you contact us by email and we will conduct a non-binding analysis discussion in advance. In this way we can determine directly whether you are suitable for our online coaching. We want to make sure in advance that we are the right contact person for you. You can only be considered for our coaching if we are sure that we can help you.
  • I'm on medication, is that a problem?"
No. Although we do not work with medication ourselves, we know that many of those affected take medication. We do not deny this to anyone and would never presume to advise against prescribed medication. We try to find solutions to not having to take medication anymore or only in a lower dosage. It is always a success for us when our customers have to take less medication but still have fewer migraine attacks.
  • I've had migraines for years, is there anything I can do about it?"
Of course. Although migraines can get worse over the years, there is always work to do on migraines. During our coaching, we have to determine which measures are the right ones for you. For some, a change in diet can make sense, for others it is more a change in hormone levels. We go through all possible measures to find the best way for you.
  • I'm interested in a consultation, what do I have to do?"
Nothing easier than that. Just send us an email to info@release-fitness and we will get back to you immediately with a suggested date. Our analysis discussion is completely non-binding for you and will help you to determine whether you can make friends with our methods.
